Busy is not a healthy business

Being busy and running a healthy business are two different things. The team is working. Deliverables are going out. The invoice is still pending. From the inside, all of that feels like momentum.
What changes when you carry the risk
Inside someone else’s company, my job was to make delivery run. Once I started building my own, I also had to think about receivables, payroll, vendor costs and whether the work we were doing actually paid for itself. Those are not exciting topics, and nobody warned me how much of the founder title they take up.
The question I ask now
For every activity, I ask: does this create revenue, margin or leverage? If the honest answer is no, I have to explain why we are still doing it.
Does this create revenue, margin or leverage?
Sometimes the answer is a good reason, such as a relationship or something we are learning. Often it is not, and asking out loud is what makes that visible.
What this is pushing me toward
- Clearer positioning instead of a broad list of services.
- More recurring work and fewer one-off projects.
- Systems that run without me holding every thread.
I am not writing from the finish line. I am in the middle of working this out, and the point of writing it down is to be honest about that.
